The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to a small house fire Friday evening. At 6:44 p.m., fire personnel went to 1581 Lexington Ave. because of a smoke detector sounding in the bathroom. No flames showed from the outside, but firefighters found a small fire in the kitchen that was extinguished in about five minutes. The occupants were not home during the fire call, but returned home after being notified by their alarm company. Moderate fire and smoke damage occurred to the home, according to a Cape Girardeau Fire Department report. No injuries were reported.
