A Cape Girardeau man will stand trial in September for his alleged role in a robbery. 34-year old Jesse Boyer will appear for a jury trial Sept. 29 before Judge Ben Lewis. Boyer is charged with one count each of armed criminal action and first-degree robbery in a beating and theft March 31 on North Middle Street in Cape Girardeau. According to a probable-cause statement a witness told police a man struck the victim in the head with a gun and ran toward a house on North Frederick Street. The man later was identified as Boyer. A bag of prescription medication was torn during the altercation, and Boyer allegedly picked up the pills before fleeing. The victim suffered an injury that was not life-threatening. Boyer waived formal arraignment and pleaded not guilty May 26.
