TODAY’S GENIUS AWARD GOES TO . . . . . . .
A 33-year-old man in Italy, who called in a bomb threat to the airport, because his girlfriend was stuck in traffic and would miss her flight.
What’s more, the man spoke in Arabic, telling police “there’s a bomb on board,” in the hope the threat would sound more convincing.
The man was arrested upon arriving at the airport.
A similar case in France left the culprit facing up to two years in prison and a €30,000 ($45,550) fine.
AND THEN THERE’S …..
Hayden Vandiver, 51, a Tennessee man who told police he stole and wrecked his boss’ truck in an attempt to get time away from his wife.
Vandiver hated his boss, and couldn’t stand being around his wife so he came up with a plan to solve both of his problems.
He swiped his boss’ $60,000 truck and drove it into a creek in hopes that the cops would catch him.
When arrested he told the police, besides hating his boss, it also solves his issues with his wife, because now that he’s in jail, it’ll give him some time away from her.
OR HOW ABOUT …..
Kevin Carter, 54, a priest at St. Margaret of Cortona Church in Little Ferry, New Jersey, who pulled a gun on an eight-year-old boy, because he was going to root against the New York Giants.
The gun was a Civil War-style musket and it was all supposed to be a joke.
However, police didn’t find the humor in pulling a gun on a little kid, especially if you’re a man-of-God.
Father Carter was arrested for endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated assault.
OKAY, ONE MORE …..
An unidentified burglar, who got trapped inside the secure area of a Pomona, California cellular store and had to be rescued by police.
The store’s secure area, complete with reinforced steel doors, was constructed after its business partners lost thousands of dollars worth of inventory in previous burglaries.
Surveillance video shows the thief desperately trying to escape for about 45 minutes, kicking the doors and even trying to break through one of them by using a hammer and other tools.
He was freed by police, then arrested.
