Kennett Director of Public Safety John Mallott says a fire at a home in Kennett Wednesday night around 8 o’clock has left a family homeless. The home was on the corner of 5th Street and Shady Lane and deemed a complete loss. The cause of the fire is unknown and believed to have started in the rear of the home. No one was hurt. Mallott says a mother and her son left the home and about an hour later neighbors saw smoke billowing. Before crews got to the scene, neighbors had busted in the front door to save the family’s dogs. That apparently allowed air into the home and fed the fire causing it to quickly spread. The Red Cross is helping the mother and son who lost everything in the fire. The family did not have insurance.
