TODAY’S GENIUS AWARD GOES TO . . . . . . .
Paul Ratner, 62, a Phoenix man who left his five-year-old granddaughter alone in a desert with a loaded and cocked gun, so he could have “a few drinks and a cheeseburger.”
The girl’s mother had reported her missing and was unable to reach Ratner. Authorities who were searching for her in helicopters received a call from her family saying she’d been found alone in the desert, holding the gun. Relatives then helped track down Ratner, who was at a store and admitted to leaving her there.
Ratner was charged with two counts of child abuse and one count of child endangerment after the girl’s mother reported her daughter missing.
AND THEN THERE’S …..
Darrin Farmer, 55, a local judge of elections in Pennsylvania, who was arrested after failing to show up to the polls on election day so he could work as a driver for hire.
His wife said he dropped her off at a store to buy refreshments for volunteers but then left.
Police allege that he decided to spend the day giving rides for money.
Farmer faces charges including tampering with public records and obstructing a government function.
His actions delayed voting for three hours on Election Day.
OR HOW ABOUT …..
Jordan Everett Glover, 23, a Florida man who was arrested for pot possession at the scene of someone else’s drug bust because of his suspicious behavior.
Officers were searching a car when they became suspicious of a slow-driving Chevy Impala that went past them twice. When deputies went to investigate, the driver took off and tossed a bag of pot out the window. After checking the Impala’s registration they arrested Glover, charging him with obstruction without violence, marijuana possession and destroying evidence.
