As the Jackson Civic Center nears its grand opening in early 2016, city officials are appealing to residents to help fund some special equipment and additions. The facility was funded in part by a $4.2 million donation from the Southeast Missouri Medical Center Inc., $2.8 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a land donation from the Clark family and a quarter-cent sales tax approved in late 2012. Jackson’s fundraising committee hopes to raise more than $205,000 for fixed-cost items such as pickleball nets, paddles and balls, a defibrillator and kitchen equipment. They also are raising money for “open-end” expenses such as landscaping, board games and art to decorate the facility. Donors may contribute at a number of amount levels — from Platinum-level sponsorship at $10,000 to the smallest increment of $100. Platinum, Gold and Silver sponsors will be recognized with plaques on the founding donors’ wall and be recognized at the civic center’s eventual opening ceremony. Personalized paving bricks come with donations of $100, $250 and $500. Those interested in donating are encouraged to call Johnson at (573) 243-8331.
