Most area voters didn’t cast ballots in Tuesday’s election. Less than 13 percent of Cape Girardeau County’s registered voters went to the polls despite two tax issues on the ballot in the cities of Cape Girardeau and Jackson, contested school board races and a Cape Girardeau City Council race. In all, 6,166 voters went to the polls. In Scott County, 3,366 residents or less than 15 percent of registered voters cast ballots in school board and municipal races. More than 17 percent of registered voters went to the polls in Perry and Bollinger counties. In Bollinger County, 1,384 residents voted. In Perry County, 2,161 residents voted. Both counties had tax issues on the ballot.
