Local high school students attended the annual Youth in Government Day at the Cape Girardeau City Hall today/Friday. These students were invited to shadow city officials and officers and experience their day-to-day schedules. Out of the numerous students who attended the event, seven students were selected to be Cape Girardeau City Council members and stage a City Council Meeting. Savanah Seyer led the Council as City Mayor, Amy Dai presided as City Manager, and students Drew Thatcher, Jessica Weibrecht, Brent Tiemann, Allison Beggs, and Taylor Barnes acted as City Council Members. During this meeting, the students addressed and discussed topics such as community gardens, water fowl in city parks, noise levels within city limits, and chickens. Pictures have been posted to department Facebook pages.
