The City of Cape Girardeau seems to have experienced an increase in gun violence witnessing 15 shootings in less than a year.Cape Girardeau/ Bollinger County Major Case Squad began investigating in 2015 after Paige Smith was shot during a drive-by shooting, June 29th. Since the incident Cape Girardeau police have investigated 14 shootings, arresting nine people as a result. The average age of those arrested was 20. Counting Smiths Shooting, four of the 15 shootings occurred in broad daylight. The department will be a part of the street- crime task force with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, Poplar Bluff, and Charleston Police department. The task force will track the movements of suspects among Southeast Missouri cities.Stop Needless Acts of Violence Please members are aware of the violence, which prompted them to meet for a vigil last Friday night near the site of the March 31st killing of Airious Darling.
