Tuesday afternoon, Sikeston DPS Officers located a suspect with a warrant for his arrest. 19-year-old Rubin Ryshawn Hampton of Sikeston had a warrant through Scott County Courts for distribution of a controlled substance, a class B felony. Officer Ben Quick found Hampton walking on William Street near Carroll and arrested him. The officer found a small amount of what appeared to be marijuana in Hampton’s pants. A search of him revealed over 21 individual baggies of what appeared to be marijuana. Just before locating the marijuana, Hampton began fighting with two officers in an apparent attempt to keep the officers from finding the contraband. Hampton is now facing additional charges for the incident. DPS is seeking new charges on Hampton for possession with intent to distribute, a class B felony, possession of a controlled substance in a jail facility, a class B felony, resisting arrest for a felony, a class D felony and two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer. Hampton’s bond is set at $25,000 cash or surety.
