Sixteen people were injured when a residential deck collapsed under them in Sikeston Friday night. At roughly 9 p.m., the Sikeston Department of Public Safety received a call to the 100 block of North Ridge Road. Captain James McMillen says more than 20 people were celebrating when a group congregated around an expectant mother to congratulate her. Several family members, including two expectant mothers, fell nearly 15 feet to the ground. Sixteen people were injured. Most were minor injuries, but some sustained broken limbs, lacerations and back injuries. The expectant mothers who fell are expected to recover without complications. Fifteen people were transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center and the other was transported to a hospital in Cape Girardeau. The cause of the structural failure has not yet been determined.
