The Missouri Department of Corrections is struggling with a shortage of about 500 correctional officers among its 22 prisons. Director Anne Precythe says pay is a major issue. Some just starting out are making as much as those who have been on the pay rolls for over a decade and that’s not okay. The department is offering a one-time 250-dollar incentive to current employees who refer new workers that complete basic training.
