Signal changes are coming today at the intersection of Independence and Pacific streets in Cape Girardeau. The signals at the intersection will be set to flashing, creating a “cross traffic does not stop” intersection. The lights will flash yellow along Independence and red along Pacific, according to a news release from the city. The signals will continue flashing until the contractor removes it next week. Permanent stop signs will be added on Pacific to replace the signal. This will be the second traffic signal removed in the city this year. Lights at the Sprigg and Morgan Oak streets intersection recently were removed and replaced with stop signs. Traffic studies performed by the city determined the signal lights no longer were warranted. The city asks drivers to watch for the changes and use caution in the area.
