No tickets after Cape officer crashes car into house

No tickets were issued after a Cape Girardeau police officer crashed his patrol vehicle into a Jackson house in late June. Cape Girardeau Police Sgt. Adam Glueck says the officer, whose name was not released, was responding to the 500 block of Nellie Street in Jackson about 10:30 p.m. June 28 to assist in a report about a homicide that officers later determined was false.  The officer was driving on Highway 25 when he lost control of his vehicle on a curve and struck the carport of a house at 116 Grandview Drive. Separate investigations were conducted by the Cape Girardeau and Jackson police departments. The city of Cape Girardeau personnel manual states any employee who sustains an on-the-job injury must report the injury within the current work shift, regardless of severity, to his or her immediate supervisor and will be subject to post-accident drug and alcohol testing. Jackson police concluded the crash was an accident, and no tickets were issued. The officer suffered minor injuries during the crash. Cape Girardeau’s internal investigation continues.
