A future plan for a straight shot to Paducah may have some legs!
Cape Girardeau’s “earthquake proof” bridge makes us the perfect partner for new infrastructure to take people in a straighter route to Paducuah. Chairman of the TransAmerica Corridor Corporation, Jay Knudtson says they are supporting a study to connect Cape Girardeau directly to I57 in Illinios. The funds for the previous Route 66 corridor are being repurposed due to complications negotiating with Kentucky. Knudtson tells KZIM KSIM this 18 mile stretch of (hopefully) a 4 lane highway is not an upgrade, it’s a whole new piece of infrastructure…
Knudtson reminds us that there would be all kinds of studies to conduct from environmental, funding, and impact prior to any future decision but the ball is rolling. It could be ten years before a plan is solid. The TCC believes this idea breeds opportunity for economic regional growth and improved travel.
