Downtown golf tourney to tee off Sept. 27
Southeast Missourian
It’s almost time for the “First-Ever” Tenth Annual Louis J. Lorimier Memorial World-Famous Downtown Golf Tournament and All-You-Can Eat Catfish Buffet. The Sept. 27 event is a fundraiser for the Red House Interpretive Center. Tee time is at 1 p.m. at the Common Pleas Courthouse Park gazebo, near the Broadway and Lorimier Street intersection. Participants will take turns at nine holes scattered across downtown, all the way to the riverfront. BirdieBalls will be provided for putting — the plastic, napkin-ring shaped “balls” are used in place of golf balls — as well as strike pads. Each golfer is asked to bring a 5-iron or 6-iron. The entry fee for those who register before Sept. 23 is $25. The registration fee after that is $35. All ages are invited to participate, and the first 100 registrants receive a tournament T-shirt. After the tournament will be the catfish dinner at 3 p.m. in the Yacht Club at Port Cape. Entry forms are available from the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department.
