How will Obama’s Clean Power Plan affect Missourians? Here is one man’s viewpoint…
President Obama has implemented a pan to drop the US carbon emissions by 32% BY 2030. Meaning nearly half of our coal fleet will be shut down in 15 years. Former MO Public Service Commissioner, Terry Jarrett says the EPA’s proposed “Clean Power Plan” (CPP) will increase electricity prices and jeopardize the reliability of America’s electric grid. This plan will potentially lower global CO2 concentrations by less than 1 percent by the year 2100. Jarrett tells KZIM KSIM in Missouri 80% of our power is from coal. We will have to build wind, solar, and other sources which are more expensive… meaning Ameren MO would need 4 BILLION dollars or more to make this happen. Passing that cost on to you.
Jarrett says the U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates the plan’s annual cost at $51 billion in lost GDP and 224,000 jobs lost. He says it will impose an essentially regressive tax on low income families who lack the spare money to pay higher utility bills.
