TODAY’S GENIUS AWARD GOES TO . . . . . . .
Shad Badeau, 40, a New Hampshire man who lit his own car on fire to keep if from being towed away for being parked illegally.
It worked in the short term, because the tow truck driver put his car down and unhitched it.
However, that’s when the the cops showed up and arrested him for arson.
AND THEN THERE’S …..
Kristofer Pregent, 22, a Vermont chocolate factory worker, who hated his job and wanted to get fired, so he did the first thing that came to mind: he called in a bomb threat.
Pregent stole a co-worker’s cellphone, made the false threat under a different worker’s name, then threw the cellphone in a toilet tank.
However, when confronted by police, he first told them that he received a bomb threat, then later said that didn’t happen.
He told officers he was unhappy with his job and wanted out.
Besides being fired, he now has a criminal record for false public alarm, petit larceny, and unlawful mischief.
I guess quitting wasn’t allowed?
OR HOW ABOUT …..
Derek Benson, 30, a Connecticut man who was busted for robbery after his victim randomly saw his mugshot, and in it he’s wearing the victim’s sweatshirt.
A victimized homeowner contacted cops to report seeing a booking photo of Benson, who was arrested late last year in connection with a series of burglaries.
In Benson’s mug shot, he’s wearing the victim’s stolen gray sweatshirt with a logo for Coco Libre on it.
The victim told police he works for Coco Libre and Benson must be the robber of his home.
A subsequent investigation linked Benson to the burglary.
Benson received additional burglary, larceny, and criminal mischief citations.
OKAY, ONE MORE …..
Mark Colborne, a 37-year-old, red haired man in England, who was upset about being belittled for being a “ginger,” so he plotted to kill Prince Charles, and bring Prince Harry closer to the throne.
Colborne felt belittled by others for being a “ginger,” so he developed a 2-part terrorist plot: a cyanide attack and the assassination of Prince Charles, by shooting him in the head with a sniper rifle.
Colborne was arrested in June, convicted this week, and he’ll be sentenced in November.
