Officials say that a barge has sunk in the Mississippi River after the boat that was pulling it struck a bridge near Thebes. The incident occurred early this/yesterday morning when a towboat transporting 30 barges ran into a railroad bridge in the river. That’s when officials say the barges broke loose, with one of the barges sinking shortly after. The river is currently closed to thru-traffic at that location in order to locate the sunken barge, which was reportedly carrying grain and soybeans. No one was injured in the incident, and no other property was reported damaged aside from the sunken barge.
