Cape Girardeau Transfer Station opens June 13
Cape Girardeau’s new Transfer Station will begin operations on the 13th. After years of planning, regular hours will begin at the new location on Corporate Circle. Hours are Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Operations will cease at the end of business day June 10 at the old facility on South Sprigg Street. The Transfer Station is where solid waste and other materials are collected and prepared to be moved out of the city to an approved landfill. The project has been among the City’s top capital improvement needs in recent years because of challenges with the current location, the need for more capacity to handle additional commercial and residential growth, and a drive to make the facility’s operations more sustainable. The new facility accommodates the City’s residential recycling materials. A ribbon cutting event was held May 23 for the Wastewater Treatment Facility and the Transfer Station. City manager Scott Meyer spoke at the event about how proud he was.
