Cape Girardeau resident Andrew Bard was raising chickens in his home until an animal control officer recently told him to rid of them. He has started a petition on the City Council allowing residents to keep up to 6 chickens, with sanitation measures. City Manager of Cape Girardeau, Scott Meyer tells KZIM KSIM about the rule, and on how the petition passing will probably go.
He also says that even with urban gardening and livestock on the rise, it is still a policy decision for the council. 350 people have signed Andrew Bard’s petition to remove the ban on chickens online at change.org.
