After being placed in handcuffs, a Kelso man admitted to Scott County sheriff’s deputies he hit a woman’s legs with a wooden baseball bat. Deputies arrested 46-year old Raymond Matthew Jayne, about 6:30 Friday evening at his residence in the 300 block of West Holly Street in Kelso. The Scott County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Jayne on Monday with second-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon. His bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety. A probable cause statement says law enforcement received a call from a female juvenile reporting her mother had been assaulted with a baseball bat. They found the victim in an office chair with swelling to both of her legs. Jayne was in the same room, near a baseball bat. Jayne was placed under arrest. Jayne said the victim struck him with the bat first but he took it from her and struck back. Jayne did not have any visible injuries, and he admitted he consumed alcohol that evening. The victim says she refused to give Jayne money for alcohol after which he approached her with the bat and they struggled. Jayne struck her twice with the bat once she was on the floor.
