Under new management, the Perry County Recycling Center will be undergoing changes to simplify their operations. Over the last eight years, the self-sufficient center has lost almost $17,000, and must make changes before going under. Problems now with operations include receiving unsorted materials, receiving unacceptable materials like windowpanes or lightbulbs, trash being dropped off at the facility after hours, expensive glass deliveries, and a small parking lot. One change being made is to turn away any unsorted material that is brought to the center, and to only accept glass drop-offs instead of pickups. They have also started a recycling club at St. Vincent school to educate kids on the recycling process. If you have any ideas on improvements to be made in the center, contact a county commissioner or Board Chairman Chris Scheitter at 573-225-4442.
