The New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department has just sworn in 16-month-old Kazla, a Belgium Sheppard as their first K-9 officer in the county. Until they invested in the $15,000 dog, they depended on other agencies for K-9 assistance. Kazla’s handler, Deputy Ruben trained with him in Longford, Kansas at K9 Working Dogs before their one month training in Missouri. He’ll be used for tracking suspects and missing persons. Kazla has already helped in three drug investigations within his first two weeks on the team.
