Pedestrian fatalities have been on the rise. In 2016, 83 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes throughout the state. The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety has tips for you to help stop tragic pedestrian deaths. Always stay inside a disabled vehicle so it can protect you- it’s more visible to oncoming traffic. Don’t text, talk, or use headphones while walking, and always use designated crosswalks. Wear light colored clothing to make yourself more visible, and try to make eye contact with drivers. If you are a motorist, slow down and move over for vehicles on the shoulder, as there could be someone walking near it.
