Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway is recommending changes to the state law which protects workers by making sure they are paid a fair legal wage when they work on public projects. Galloway’s report released this week challenges the complaint investigation process, worker safety and notification requirements included in the statute. She says her audit found a number weaknesses in the way state projects are handled. Galloway recommends corrective action to improve the law and the way it is administered. In Fiscal Year 2016, which ended last summer, 24 of 219 complaints weren’t investigated due to lack of staff, which had been caused by budget cuts.
